Born in Washington and raised in Oregon, Amber has spent much of her life immersed in music. Amber joined her first choir at the age of five and has continued singing ever since. As a Marylhurst Alumni, and Board Certified Music Therapist, Amber brings a unique approach to her music lessons, allowing for each students strengths and interests in music to be the central focus. Amber believes that each student has innate abilities as a musician, and guides each individual to explore and enhance these connections.
Amber has sung under the direction of many notable figures in both the choral world, and modern music scene including Bob Chilcott, Henry Leck, Marin Alsop, Sandra Snow, and Morten Lauridsen. In her most recent experience as a member of the Marylhurst Chamber Choir under the direction of Justin Smith, Amber has participated in workshops with ensembles Cantus and Roomful of Teeth. She has also traveled with MCC locally and internationally to Boston, New York, Ireland, Sweden, Latvia, and Italy. Amber studied privately with accomplished Tenor and Piano Technician, Jim Schmitt in her time at Marylhurst University.
The love of singing and sense of community kindled at a young age drove Amber to pursue a career in Music Therapy. She graduated from Marylhurst University in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in music therapy and has since become a Board Certified Music Therapist. Amber quickly grew proficient as a pianist and guitarist in her studies of music therapy, and now finds a deep connection to these instruments, as she has with singing throughout her life.
